Our reputation
Lester Aldridge LLP is one of very few legal firms with expertise in this cutting edge area of law, and we act for fertility patients from across the UK, as well as advising various national patient organisations and political lobby groups.
The team is headed by associate solicitor Natalie Gamble, who has been described as the 'leading expert on Britain's fertility laws'. Natalie is often quoted in the national press (including the Times, Telegraph and the Guardian) and has been interviewed by John Humphrys on the Radio 4 Today Programme.
Our team works with leading fertility clinic the London Women's Clinic with whom we have pioneered the first
ever in-house legal advice service for fertility patients. For more information about the London Women's Clinic, click on the logo.
We also host the Ask a Lawyer page on leading community website
Fertility Friends.
How can we help?
Donor conception
If you are conceiving with donor sperm or eggs, we can help you understand the law. We particularly specialise in helping same sex couples and single women. We can:
- Help prepare a donor or co-parenting agreement if you are using a known sperm donor, including advising on any international or jurisdictional issues.
- Help you take steps to protect the rights of the birth mother’s same sex partner.
- Prepare wills to protect your child in the event of one or both of your deaths, and to ensure that your child will inherit from his or her parents.
- Advise you on the rights your child will have to identify his or her donor (and genetic siblings), and advise you on the rules surrounding how eggs or sperm stored for future siblings can be used.
- Represent you in any dispute in relation to donor conception.
Surrogacy
If you are conceiving with the help of a surrogate, we can explain how UK law applies to your situation, and what you need to do after the birth to become your child’s legal parents, whether you are single, married or in a same sex relationship. In particular, we can:
- Prepare a surrogacy agreement for you.
- Prepare specialist wills for you and your surrogate to ensure that you are all adequately protected if one of you dies unexpectedly during the pregnancy.
- Assist you with the legal process (whether a parental order or adoption) that you must go through once your child is born to reassign parental rights from your surrogate.
- Assist with immigration applications and jurisdictional issues if you have used a foreign surrogate or have foreign connections yourselves.
- Represent you in any dispute in relation to surrogacy.
Maternity leave and other employment law issues
We can advise on the rights you have to maternity, paternity and other leave if your fertility treatment is successful, and your rights to time off during the course of treatment. We can also represent you in relation to any dispute with your employer.
Our approach
We are modern, open-minded and accessible and deal with our clients around the UK easily and efficiently via email and telephone, as well as in person. We are also flexible, and can offer whatever level of service you require, from fixed fee advice which just points you in the right direction, to full representation in landmark cases.
