Many of the partners and employees at Lester Aldridge have been with the firm for over 20 years, something we are proud of and feel should be celebrated! We have been running a series of interviews with people in different roles across the firm, and this month we talk to Partner Joanne Clarke, celebrating her 20th year with LA this year.

What is your role at Lester Aldridge?

I am a Partner and Head of Compliance.

When did you join the firm and in what role? How has your role changed over the years?

I joined the firm in 2001 as a paralegal in the Family team. After qualifying as a legal executive and then later as a solicitor, I was promoted to associate and then partner in 2017. I remained in the Family team until 2020 when I took over the Compliance team.

How have you seen Lester Aldridge change since you joined?

The firm has always adapted to cultural and societal changes however its ethos has remained the same throughout my time here – at the forefront of what we do are our clients, our people and teamwork. Our commitment to those values has grown over the years and we are proud of our progressiveness.

How has technology changed over the years and how has this impacted your role?

Without a doubt! When I first started the use of emails was far less than it is now and the main medium for urgent correspondence was a faxed letter. Email use is now the main form of communication and as a result turnaround times are much faster.  Technology has improved the service we are able to provide our clients, making us accessible and more efficient.

What is the proudest moment from your career at Lester Aldridge?

Becoming a partner is by far my proudest achievement. I have worked at this firm for the majority of my career and know that partner status is not given out readily. So I was delighted to be given the opportunity and responsibility.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

I am responsible for ensuring LA complies with its regulatory requirements and internal policies. This covers a wide area and so no two days are the same. I enjoy the varied tasks I undertake. In addition, my role requires that I communicate with all areas of the firm and all employees and partners. I enjoy having that interaction with everyone.

Describe what LA means to you, on a personal level.

Having worked at LA for so long, I now regard it as my second family. The culture here is unbeatable.

Thank you, Joanne, and congratulations on your 20 year work anniversary!
