Leading law firm Lester Aldridge has appointed Naomi House & Jacksplace as their new Charity of the Year after staff raised an impressive total of £4792.49 over the last year for dementia charity, Alzheimer’s Society.

Each May, the law firm, which has offices in Bournemouth, Southampton and London, asks their staff to nominate and vote for their favourite charity. The Charity of the Year runs from May to May and benefits from donations raised by the firm’s staff, from a variety of fundraising activities such as cake sales, raffles, quiz nights and charity walks.

Naomi House & Jacksplace are two hospices which provide vital care and support to life-limited and life threatened children and young adults and their families from Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, Surrey, Berkshire, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight. Each year, it costs around £8 million to run the hospices. Less than 10% of this comes from Government and statutory sources so the charity relies on donations to continue the valuable work they do.

From May 2018 to May 2019, staff at Lester Aldridge raised nearly £5000 for Alzheimer’s Society, which campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and supports people living with dementia. Staff also took part in events organised by the charity including the Memory Walk in October, the Elf Day in December and are proud supporters of the charity’s Will to Remember Scheme.

Victoria Jones, Partner and member of the LA Fundraising Team, comments: “Since 2009, our amazing staff have raised thousands of pounds for 9 local and national charities. During the last year, we have been delighted to fundraise for Alzheimer’s Society, because dementia affects so many people and their families. We hope that the sum which we have raised will assist with funding some of the charity’s vital work, for example, dementia research, providing Dementia Advisors and operating the National Dementia Helpline. We are also looking forward to supporting our new Charity of the Year, Naomi House & Jacksplace.”

Siân Neville, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society in Dorset and Somerset said: “We are extremely grateful to Lester Aldridge staff for choosing to support Alzheimer’s Society as their Charity of the Year and for all of the time and energy they have put into their fundraising and for raising an impressive amount of money. It’s fantastic that they have also joined our Will to Remember scheme, which they will continue to support following our partnership. We’re facing an incredible challenge: one person every three minutes develops dementia and there is no cure. We’re here to change that but we need more businesses like Lester Aldridge to join us as we take on dementia together.”
