Fire, Safety, Health, Environment, Trading Standards and Water
If your business is facing investigation or prosecution you may find yourself in unfamiliar territory. You may on the other hand be a public body used to the process, but short of hands. In either case, our lawyers can offer you the expert help and advice you need to deal with these issues.
We’ve acted in a number of landmark cases over the last few years, and developed a team that can advise and assist on every level, from the immediate aftermath of an incident, to the investigative process and throughout court proceedings.
We don’t just deal with high profile cases though, our team also acts for many private and commercial clients dealing with such cases as enforcement notices and appeals, plus potential criminal sanctions.
How can we help you?
Health and safety
Our team is known for its work in this field, undertaking both prosecution and defence work. We act in cases involving the full range of health and safety offences, including manslaughter – whether being investigated by the police, Health & Safety Executive or local authorities.
We can deal with all matters of fire safety, including those relating to the recent changes in legislation.
Acting for both commercial and private clients, we offer advice during investigations and prosecutions by the Environment Agency. We’ve had considerable success avoiding charges being laid or withdrawn completely through effective negotiations with the Agency.
If you need help with Trading Standards investigations and prosecutions we can help with a range of issues, including food, product safety, fair trading (including intellectual property) and packaging.
Recently we dealt with the potential prosecution of a marina operator by a water undertaker, concerning contamination of the public water supply; the issue was in fact resolved following reference to statutory arbitration.
Understanding the regulations your business faces isn’t always easy. We can help with internal training to help you operate within your regulatory framework. We can also provide advice on regulatory matters in connection with the sale or acquisition of businesses.
