What’s life like as a trainee solicitor at Lester Aldridge? Find out in our interview with recently qualified solicitors Chelsea Feeney and Brooke Manning:

We’re interested in attracting the legal talent of the future, and that’s why we offer great opportunities for graduates who we feel have the ability to shine. We’ll expect you to have academic qualifications, but we’ll also be looking for someone who’s resourceful and who knows how to get on with people.

Training contracts

Training consists of four six-month seats in a variety of contentious and non-contentious teams. You’ll be given the chance to work with high-profile commercial clients, high net-worth private clients and exceptional lawyers.

You’ll become an integral part of each team and be encouraged to participate in departmental or team meetings as well as training and development programmes.

We’ll also give you constructive feedback, so you can learn where you’re doing well, and how you might be able to improve. In return we want you to feel that you can talk openly about your feelings too. You’ll have monthly meetings with your training principal and regular formal appraisals to keep you up to date with how everything’s going.

How to apply for a training contract at LA

Our graduate training contract applications for 2023 open on Thursday 1st April 2021.

If you are thinking of applying in the future, please read our Lester Aldridge Graduate Application Guidance Notes.

What are we looking for?

Ideally, we’re looking for candidates with a minimum ABB at A level (or equivalent) and a minimum 2:1 in their undergraduate degree.

You have to be really committed to the law (and legal work experience does help with your application) but we also think it’s important that we understand your ambitions. We’re not just interested in academic ability – you also need to demonstrate you’ve got the right attitude and a willingness to work hard.

We want someone who stands out from the crowd and values diverse life experiences.

What work is involved in each team?

“Everyone is always happy and ready to help irrespective of their position, and you can always learn something new from the people in your team.”

“The number of partners who trained in the firm is a testament to the firm’s extensive training and development focus, and a strong, friendly culture.”

“Since starting, I can appreciate even more LA’s commitment to a balanced life, mental health and equality and diversity.”

“It was very appealing to me that a lot of partners and senior staff at LA initially trained with the firm, so it clearly showed the investment that LA put into their trainees.”
